Spencer Klavan as Hippolytus :

Spencer Klavan is a second-year MPhil in Classical Languages and Literature at Worcester College. This is his first time onstage in Oxford, but in a shadowy former life across the Western sea he performed such roles as Don Quixote/Cervantes in Man of La Mancha (2014), James Avery in Valhalla (2014), and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (2011. Yes, really). He has also directed a number of productions, including Christopher Shinn's Dying City (2012) and Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George (2012). He would like to thank Katherine for giving him this opportunity, and his parents for raising him to speak Ancient Greek as a first language.

Rory Turnbull as the Servant:

Rory Turnbull is a second year undergraduate reading Theology at Oriel College. Although much more of a Latinist than Hellenist, being a committed member of the Oxford Latin Conversation Society, his appetite for Greek tragedy was irreversibly whetted at the Bryanston Greek Summer School, when he appeared in the chorus of Aeschylus’sAgamemnon. This is now his second appearance in the Oxford drama scene, after making his dramatic début as Malvolio in Twelfth Night at Oriel last term. His other passions include debating, opera and valiantly attempting to write Shakespearean sonnets in his spare time.

Chloe Cheung as Phaedra:

Chloe is a third year undergraduate reading Classics and English at Oriel College.  Recent acting credits include The Oxford Greek Play The Furies (Oxford Playhouse, MT14), As I Crossed A Bridge of Dreams (Burton Taylor Studio, HT15), and Killing Hitler (Nuffield Chapel, TT15).  She has also held various roles backstage as Costumes Designer and Stage Manager for Serata Futurista (Burton Taylor Studio, HT15), Assistant Marketing Manager for His Dark Materials: Part II (Keble O'Reilly, TT15) and Director of Twelfth Night (Oriel College Front Quad, TT15).  Furthermore, Chloe's love of theatre extends beyond amateur dramatics: she was a Student Ambassador for the Royal Shakespeare Company in the academic year 2014/2015 and is currently writing her dissertation on Sophocles and Yeats.

Oxford theatre credits include co-writing and acting in The Historical Resurrection Society, and playing the title role in a new version of Purcell’s The Prophetess, which she also assistant-directed. Jasmine will be returning to the role of the Prophetess for a second production at the Keble O’Reilly in 3rd Week. She is currently co-producing The Fairy Queen, Purcell’s operatic adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which will be performed at the Oxford Playhouse in Trinity 2016. Jasmine has a diploma in acting from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and a diploma in singing from the London College of Music. She is Outreach Officer for the OUDS committee.

Dominique David-Vincent as Theseus:

Dominique David-Vincent, impersonating Theseus in this play, is a third-year undergraduate reading Classics with Oriental Studies at Somerville College. Having studied theatre from an early age in France, he has recently performed in the intense God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, among others, in Paris. As a student of Indo-European phonology and of Greek historical linguistics, he is deeply interested in the question of pronunciation of ancient languages and therefore saw this play as an excellent opportunity to bring together an artistic desire and an intellectual passion. His interest and his attempts to revive ancient languages have recently led him to receive the First Prize for Latin Declamation (Reading) from the Classics Faculty, Oxford. His experience as a musician and his contact with modern pitch-using languages have also helped him to try and recreate the tones of Ancient Greek in his rendition.

Having studied Greek tragedy for A-level, she is grateful for her first opportunity to combine her interests in theatre and classics in the production of Aeschylus' 'Agamemnon' at Bryanston Greek Summer School (where she played the part of the deranged Cassandra)- and now in 'Hippolytus'. As a speaker of Modern Greek, Lydia has an interest in the evolution of ancient languages.
